May is a stressful month for personal trainers. This is the time when expectations run high. Clients want to get their body ready for the summer time. Trainers want to apply new ways to accelerate the process. They want to help clients reach at least some of their short-term goals. And they hope that their clients will be happy with the results. But when a client walks into the gym wishing for a body like, say, an AM/PM fitness model on video, any trainer would want to send this person straight for a liposuction. The client is clearly asking for a miracle. The trainer knows he is no miracle provider. Personal Trainers San Diego
Results don't come easy. Yet a trainer would never ask his client to take any shortcut. Not liposuction. Not even a fat-burning supplement. A good trainer would never prescribe these shortcuts to his clients.
It is not to say that there aren't bad apples in the arena of personal trainers for there are quite a few of them. They often advise their clients to take ephedrine, ephedra, or Ma Huang containing supplements. One trainer actually went with his client to purchase one such product. Needless to say, the client never returned to the gym. She died.
Not everybody dies from taking a fat-burning supplement. Yet, a trainer has to apply caution. He has to do his research on the product especially prior to even proposing it to his client. Similarly, it is important for a trainer to caution clients who are using certain kinds of medications because the reaction of the ephedrine or ephedra with other medications can even lead to death.
Fat-burners--as they are often called-contain ephedra, a stimulant that contains an herbal form of ephedrine. Ephedrine and ephedra are sold in various stores under a variety of brand names. Ephedrine is widely used for weight loss or to pump up energy for rigorous activities. These products often contain other stimulants that can increase the potential for adverse effects on the user. These kinds of supplements must be avoided. They may look tempting, but their results can be detrimental to ones health. If you don't die from it, you certainly will experience significant side effects: some can slip into coma, others into paralysis, and still others into this or that. The effects can be numerous, and often lethal.
Since the companies that make these supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is always wise to be wary of these products. One should avoid being guinea pigs to these companies. Also, one should never be blinded by their advertisement showing fitness models with six-pack abs. If, say, the AM/PM model's physique looks too good to be true, it probably is.
A personal trainer would try to help his client get his six-pack abs if he must. Try is the key word here. Some clients misunderstand. They actually expect to look like these near-fictitious models overnight. What can a trainer tell them? He cannot tell them it is impossible to look like this carved clay body on television or videos. However, he needs to be open with his clients and explain to them how long it takes or what the sacrifices are to get to that level.
Nothing comes easy. Hard work, determination and unique genetics will get them closer to the goal. This is the only thing a trainer can tell his clients. If the clients are happy with the answer, that's great. If not, the trainer should use his marketing skills to draw more clients into his fold because he definitely stands to lose this one.
Personal trainers do not lie. They tweak the truth a little bit to ease the pain. But that's about it. A personal trainer is there to make his client feel good. However, if the client's scale tips over, say, 300 pounds, a trainer has to let him know the truth without hurting his feelings, of course.
However stressful it may be, I personally love the month of May. The weather is nice. New members come to the gym, which means more potential clients. This makes every personal trainer very happy. Plus, Memorial Day is around the corner, which officially proclaims the beginning of what can be a beautiful summer for everyone. Well, for almost everyone.
